How Do I Become a Referee?

If you are 13 years of age or over, you can become a Football Referee.

 

In 2024, the training process to become a referee has changed and involves the 3 steps. 

 

Before you commence your online training it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the simplified Laws of the Games. The Simplified Laws can be found at https://footballrules.com/ .

Step 1:  Complete C0 Course "Laws of the Game" Course   Cost $0

This course provides a basic introduction to the Laws of the Game and their interpretation.  After successfully completing the course you will receive a certificate which will then allow you to move on to the next online training module.

You will need your Playfootball login details. If you have never previously registered as a player or referee, you will need to set up a new playfootball account.

Step 2: Complete C3 "Junior Football Match Official"  Online Course Cost $33

Log into the learning centre as per Step 1 and go to the Training Library and view the Courses in the Referee Community-Member Federation section. Select the Junior Football Match Official Course and complete your course registration and then you will be provided with access to the online training modules.

There are 4 online theory modules to complete. 

Match Control - understanding our impact on the game

Positioning Movement - the best position for the correct decision

Technical Concepts - C0 course and considerations

Game Management - managing a match with football understanding

When you have completed the Online Training Modules you will be able to move onto Step 3 and register for one of the In Person Practical Training Sessions.

 Step 3:  Attend C3 " Junior Football Match Official" In Person Event  Cost $0

Orange Referees will running 2 Practical Training sessions, you only need to register for and attend one of the sessions.  The Practical sessions will be held on the following dates:

Monday 25th March 2024, 6pm to 8pm

Monday 29th April 2024, 6pm to 8pm.

To enrol for one of these sessions, click on the following link, https://www.playfootball.com.au/referee/find-a-referee-course#, locate the ODFRA Course on either of the above 2 dates and follow the steps to enrol.

Step 4: Register with Orange Referees

When you have finished all your training you are then eligible to join Orange Referees and begin your refereeing journey.
